Be Aware: Courier Scams
Thames Valley Police have warned of courier scam activity in the Reading area. Please read the information below and share with any vulnerable neighbours.
How the Scam Works
Fraudsters call victims pretending to be police officers or bank staff. They claim your bank account has been compromised and ask you to withdraw cash or hand over bank cards to a “courier” they will send to your home.
Remember:
- Your bank or the police will NEVER ask you to withdraw cash or hand over your card
- Hang up and call your bank or 101 using a number you know to be genuine (not one provided by the caller)
- If you’re on a landline, wait several minutes before calling out, or use a mobile
